Hello! I’m Lindsay McGovern
Licensed Clinical Social Worker and OCD & anxiety specialist
As a young child, I was often described as “too sensitive” and emotional. I was prone to anxiety and often worried about things that didn’t seem to bother my friends and peers. I hated my anxiety.
Fast forward to now….
As an adult and therapist, I have a completely different perspective! I now see my INFJ, HSP self as someone who feels deeply and I feel immense gratitude for that. I naturally look for greater meaning, purpose, and deeper understanding in life. I feel blessed that my sensitivity & empathy for others led me here.
I want to be clear though that embracing and loving yourself does not need to include living a life filled with anxiety, dread, or panic! Finding compassion for who you are + using evidence-based therapeutic tools & strategies can = an incredibly effective combination for taming anxiety and quieting OCD.
I received my Master’s degree in 2005 and began practicing as a licensed therapist in 2012. I have worked with countless women to help them let go of the need for certainty and to practice leaning into the joy and contentment in their life. I utilize a combination of modalities when treating OCD and anxiety including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Self-compassion work, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
What I Believe About Therapy
The connection and fit between the therapist and the client is key. You feeling safe and comfortable is necessary.
Therapy is really hard work, but it can also be joyful and even light and funny at times.
That you will always know YOU best. I will never ask you to do something you’re not ready for.
That therapy is an absolute safe space free of all judgement. I stand with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
“In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.”
